How
Does RemotePass work through Firewalls and Proxy servers?
Most remote control software does not work through corporate firewalls
and Proxy servers because the connection is initiated from the support rep's
computer to the remote user’s computer and because corporate firewalls block
peer to peer networking. RemotePass products work transparently
through corporate firewalls and Proxy servers by initiating the connection
from the user’s system to the RemotePass webserver that acts as a gateway to
the support rep’s computer. All traffic runs on the standard internet
port using only the standard internet protocol. The remote system is
"granting" remote access instead of the support rep "taking" remote control.
Since the session is initiated by the remote computer, the network firewall
will see this traffic as outbound traffic similar to surfing the Internet.
Since a firewall is designed to allow outbound traffic while blocking
inbound traffic, RemotePass can connect easily where other remote control
software fails.
What
if my computer is also behind a Firewall or Proxy server?
RemotePass products will allways work, even if both the host and
administrator are behind a Proxy server, firewall, DMZ, NAT and/or routers.
What
if everyone is behind a Proxy server that requires authentication?
RemotePass will allways work, even if both the host and administrator are
behind a Proxy server that requires username and password authentication.
The proxy username and password can be set in the settings of the RemotePass
application and at the remotep computer a popup will appear asking for a
username and password before connecting to the Remotepass hateway on the
internet.
Is
RemotePass secure over the internet?
Yes, the RemotePass technology and architecture is completely secure.
Architecture:
The architecture of RemotePass products lends built-in security to the
support process. Both the support representative and the customer work from
behind corporate firewalls providing a barrier to any potentially malicious
traffic. In addition, A RemotePass session is initiated spontaneously when a
support issue occurs and is then discontinued when the session is completed,
providing only a small, irregular period of time wherein RemotePass traffic
is crossing the internet. This secure architecture provides the first level
of RemotePass security by obscuring the entire support process by leaving
existing security structures in place and spontaneously generating each
support session.
RemotePass Gateway:
RemotePass products interface with the RemotePass internet gateway and offer
an extremely high level of security within a managed environment. All
traffic passing through the RemotePass webservers is encrypted along the
entire data stream using industry standard SSL encryption (HTTPS). This
encryption is in addition to the heavy data compression inherent in
RemotePass traffic.
How does
the "Reboot and Auto-Reconnect" feature work?
When you reboot the remote user's computer, the session is automatically
reinitiated through the RemotePass webserver as soon as the remote user logs
on after rebooting so that the support rep can then continue the session.
No assistance from the remote user is required if the remote computer does
not need a password verification to log on.
What
operating systems does RemotePass support?
RemotePass products are designed for all versions (workstation and server
editions) of the Microsoft
Windows operating system from Windows 95 to Windows VISTA. This means
that the support representative can install RemotePass on any version of the
Microsoft Windows operating system and also remote control any version of
the Microsoft Windows operating system.
